A momentous occasion unfolded today at the Jammu & Kashmir Entrepreneurship Development Institute (JKEDI), as organic certificates were bestowed upon saffron growers of District Pulwama as part of the "Meri Maati Mera Desh" initiative, aptly named "Maati Ko Naman, Veeron Ka Vandan."The event was organized by Jammu Kashmir Trade Promotion Organization (JKTPO)  in association with InvestIndia under National Programme for Organic Production (NPOP).

The event was graced by the esteemed presence of Chief Guest Sh. Vikramjit Singh, IPS, Commissioner/Secretary Industry and Commerce, Government of Jammu & Kashmir, who felicitated the distribution of organic certificates among the dedicated saffron growers of Pulwama. This milestone marks a significant stride towards recognizing and promoting sustainable agricultural practices in the region.

In his address to the business community, Sh. Vikramjit Singh, IPS, Commissioner Secretary of the Department of Industry and Commerce, emphasized the need to embrace change by pursuing organic certification for their products. He further highlighted the potential of expanding the organic umbrella to include products such as cherries, garlic, apples, and more.

"Embracing the change towards organic certification is not only a strategic move for businesses but also a responsible choice towards promoting a sustainable future," said Sh. Vikramjit Singh. "We encourage entrepreneurs and producers to take advantage of this opportunity and register their products for organic certification. This not only adds value to their offerings but also contributes to the overall well-being of consumers and the environment."

Moreover, Sh. Vikramjit Singh urged businesses to explore the organic potential of various products that are yet to come under the organic ambit. He specifically mentioned cherries, garlic, apples, and several other items that possess qualities that could be enhanced through organic cultivation practices. Bringing these products into the organic fold would not only cater to niche markets but also align with the growing demand for healthier alternatives.

Earlier, the spirit of patriotism and environmental stewardship converged today at the lawns of the Jammu & Kashmir Entrepreneurship Development Institute (JKEDI) as a guard of honour and a flag hoisting ceremony kicked off the "Meri Maati Mera Desh" initiative, by  Chief Guest Sh. Vikramjit Singh, IPS, Commissioner/Secretary Industry and Commerce,  Mr. Khalid Jahangir, MD JKTPO and Director JKEDI dedicated to honouring the land and the valour of our heroes.

The distribution ceremony, executed under the aegis of the National Programme for Organic Production (NPOP), resonates deeply with the ethos of the "Meri Maati Mera Desh" initiative, which underscores the vital role of soil conservation, sustainable farming, and honouring the valour of our Bravehearts. The event not only acknowledges the tireless efforts of the saffron cultivators but also solidifies their position as guardians of the land.

Mr. Khalid Jahangir, Managing Director of Jammu & Kashmir Trade Promotion Organization (JKTPO), extended a warm and heartfelt welcome to all participants. He shared the illuminating vision of JKTPO, which is dedicated to providing comprehensive assistance to saffron farmers in obtaining organic certifications. These certifications not only validate the farmers' commitment to eco-friendly practices but also serve as a gateway to expanded markets and increased consumer trust.

With an emphasis on fostering growth and facilitating market access, Mr. Jahangir urged saffron farmers to take full advantage of various initiatives at their disposal. He encouraged them to explore opportunities like exhibitions and Buyer-Seller Meetings (BSMs) to showcase their premium produce, connect with potential buyers, and forge beneficial partnerships. Such platforms, he emphasized, serve as pathways to unlock a world of possibilities and establish a strong foothold in the competitive market landscape.

The event witnessed the active participation of representatives from Invest India, highlighting the collaborative efforts between various stakeholders in championing sustainable agriculture and boosting economic growth. This partnership exemplifies the joint commitment towards fostering a robust saffron industry that contributes to both local prosperity and national progress.

Among the distinguished officials present were Mr. Aijaz Ahmad Bhat, IAS, Director JKEDI, who emphasized the institute's unwavering support towards the growth and advancement of saffron cultivation in the region. The ceremony was also graced by officers from the Department of Agriculture and other governmental departments, signifying the united approach to nurturing a sustainable and thriving saffron ecosystem in Pulwama.

The ceremony witnessed an inspiring turnout of saffron growers, who took center stage as the true heroes of this remarkable achievement.
