KATHUA, JULY 27: A meeting of District Level Export Promotion Committee
was held here under the Chairpersonship of Deputy Commissioner, Kathua, Dr..Rakesh
Minhas, who is also the Chairman of Committee. The meeting was convened to
discuss the Draft Export Plan for Kathua district prepared by Jammu and Kashmir
Trade Promotion Organization (JKTPO).
At the outset, the GM DIC Kathua, Sh. Prem Singh
welcomed the committee members and informed about the agenda of the meeting.
The consultant from JKTPO presented a PowerPoint
presentation on the draft District Export Action Plan, detailing both hard and
soft interventions required to increase exports of products identified under
ODOP & District as Export Hub, viz. Basholi Painting &Basholi Pashmina.
An extensive discussion was held on the
processes to increase of production of painting & pashmina keeping quality
into mind for a long term goal of exports, besides the action plan to make
these products match international quality & to increase the income of
local potential exporters at the same time.
The Deputy Commissioner Kathua directed the
stakeholders to provide short and longterm action plans along with the list of
new, but potential manufacturers and exporters. The committee was also poised
about the respective Common Facility Centre for pashmina & painting
respectively.
He also added that the plan must include
strategies to increase production, quality of products, cluster zones for
export to be identified, departmental schemes be implemented and market
linkages, good packaging techniques, unique design etc to start direct exports
from the district.
The GM-DIC instructed the committee members to
go through the draft export action plan prepared by JKTPO and add some valuable
suggestions which can be included in the draft action plan before it is
submitted to the Committee for the approval.
The Committee will meet again to finalize the
plan after incorporating suggestions from the various stakeholders.
