Jammu, April 04, 2022 : A delegation from the IndoCanada Chamber of
Commerce visited Jammu to promote bilateral trade relations and jointly discuss
investment and trade opportunities with thrust on exports from J&K to Canada
along with creating business opportunities for Indian start-ups and MSMEs in
Canada.
Principal Secretary to Government I&C, Shri Ranjan Prakash Thakur,
IRTS, who stressed upon J&K being a hub of exponential opportunities and a
virgin territory from the aspect of attracting global attention and investment
along with being a strategic focus and priority for the central government. He
highlighted the fact that J&K has the best incentives, package and policies
in the country and a huge potential in the sectors of hospitality and tourism to
name a few.
Ms. Ankita Kar, IRAS, MD, JKTPO welcomed the delegation and presented
views, policies, incentives and potential export products of the UT in a
interactive presentation with specific focus was on GI products.
The President of the IndoCanada Chamber of Commerce, Mr. Ripudaman S.
Dhillon, said that the focus of the delegation was on sectors like agriculture,
hospitality, immigration, realty, information technology, infrastructure etc. All
these sectors continue to show incredible potential and are expected to become
pivotal in the growth story for enhancing trade relations between the two
countries. He further said that growing interest of the Indo-Canadian diaspora
into “Make in India” products will also compel Canada to look at India and
specially at a growing market like J&K to promote trade to ensure growth
and employment opportunities for its budding entrepreneurs. He invited JKTPO to
start a help desk in Canada.
The event was focused to promote investment and exports along with
facilitating business linkages and direct dialogue between the Indo - Canadian
delegation and their extended network with industry representatives from
J&K.
The discussions revolved around promoting exports of traditional
exportable products from J&K like Saffron, Basmati Rice, Pashmina and Kani
Shawls, Carpets, Honey, Kashmiri Chilli, Walnuts along with innovative ideas
like Medical Tourism. There were women entrepreneurs, start-ups and exporters
who presented their products and services from sectors like education, handloom
& handicrafts, agro-based and horticulture products to the delegation which
were highly appreciated and received overwhelming responses in terms of
potential market linkages & investments.
Some other proposals discussed were Indian food and value-added products
in Canada, investments in JVs by Indian businessmen in Canada, importing
economical but quality products from J&K.
From JKTPO Mr. Mukesh Thapa, General Manager JKTPO, Mr. Chaitanya
Sharma, Manager, Operations and other officials were also present. Mr. Arun
Gupta, President, JCCI; Mr. Gourav Gupta, General Secretary, JCCI; Mr. Anil
Gupta, Sr. Vice President, JCCI; Mr. Ravnish Gulati, Immediate Past Chairman,
CII J&K; Mr. Manik Batra, Chairman, ASSOCHAM J&K; Mr Lalit Mahajan,
Bari Brahamana Industries Association, Mr. Abhay Pargal, LJK Economic Growth
and Development Dialogue (LEAD)and other representatives from key industry
associations were also presented.
