January 2024 – Sh. Rajeev Rai Bhatnagar, Advisor to Lieutenant Governor,
J&K, inaugurated the 1st edition of Jammu Trade Fair 2024
at the Gen. Zorawar Singh Auditorium Ground, University of Jammu. The Trade Fair,
organized by the Jammu & Kashmir Trade Promotion Organization (JKTPO)
Department of Industries & Commerce, provides a captivating display of the
Union Territory's rich culture and untapped trade potential.
The Jammu Trade Fair 2024, is a flagship event aimed at showcasing the
economic and cultural vibrancy of Jammu & Kashmir, being organized from
January 31st to February 4th, 2024. Notably, the Jammu Trade Fair 2024 is being
organized on revenue generation model with least relevance on Government budgeting
support, thus being first of its kind and a trail blazing event. Further, the
event has received official approval from the Ministry of Micro, Small and
Medium Enterprises (MSME), Government of India, further validating its
significance as a key platform for fostering economic growth and cultural
exchange in the region.
Driven by the
vision of 'Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas, Sabka Prayas,' the Jammu
Trade Fair 2024 aims to showcase the diverse economic and cultural facets of
J&K. Intended to be a signature event, the Jammu Trade Fair is set to
become an annual fixture on fixed dates, creating a consistent platform for
businesses and investors, and provide a unique identity to Jammu city.
With over 110 stalls, the Jammu Trade Fair 2024 is a comprehensive
exhibition, spanning Handloom & Handicrafts, Horticulture, Agriculture,
Fashion & Accessories, Travel and Tourism, Building Materials, Furniture,
Interiors & Home Decor, and more. Various manufacturers and artisans are
also part of this exhibition, collectively highlighting the rich cultural and
industrial tapestry of the region.
The Jammu Trade Fair 2024 gathered
sponsorship from key organizations, enhancing its significance in the business
landscape. Sponsored stalls and exhibitors feature esteemed entities including
SIDBI (Small Industries Development Bank of India), NABARD (National Bank for
Agriculture and Rural Development), DCH (Development Commissioner Handicrafts),
and TPCI (Trade Promotion Council of India). The event's power is fuelled by
industry giants such as JSW (Jindal Steel Works), Varun Beverages, the global
e-commerce giant Amazon, and Karcher, collectively contributing to the success
and vibrancy of the trade fair.
Addressing
on the occasion Sh. Bhatnagar highlighted the distinctiveness and quality of
every product originating from J&K, emphasizing that the region offers
opportunities for growth, development, and success. He expressed that the organization
of Jammu Trade Fair 2024 marks a significant milestone for J&K, where the
government is extending comprehensive support to farmers, manufacturers, and
artisans. Sh. Bhatnagar commended the incentives provided in the Union
Territory, acknowledging them as the best in the country. He applauded the
dedicated efforts of JKTPO and the Industries and Commerce Department in
organizing the Jammu Trade Fair 24 and stressed the potential benefits it could
yield. Mentioning the One District One Product (ODOP) initiative, he noted that
nearly 17 products have received Geographical Indication (GI) tags, with others
in the pipeline. Sh. Bhatnagar likened J&K to a sunrise region brimming
with opportunities and commended the cultural program and artisans for their
impressive performances.
Speaking
at the event, Commissioner Secretary, Industries & Commerce, Vikramjit
Singh stated that recognizing the true potential of JKTPO's could foster an
environment for business that actively supports trade and exports to help
J&K to flourish and prosper economically. He appreciated such programmes in
empowering local farmers, sellers, and producers and enhancing Jammu and
Kashmir's socio-economic environment. He said that this inaugural event is set
to become the flagship event and is planned to be held annually in both Jammu
and Kashmir divisions.
Managing
Director of JKTPO, Sh.Khalid Jahangir, extended his gratitude to the Advisor to
Hon’ble Lt. Governer J&K for
addressing and give valuable insights to gathering. He gave out that JKTPO is
mandated to organize such events for the promotion of unique products of
J&K. Sh. Khalid conveyed appreciation for the support and guidance received
from the Industries and Commerce, J&K Academy of culture, Art & Languages,
HoDs and other organizations and stakeholders for organizing this event,
highlighting the continuous support provided.
A vibrant cultural show marked the occasion,
with the presence of key officials, including Vikramjit Singh, Commissioner
Secretary, Industries & Commerce Department, Khalid Jahangir, Managing
Director JKTPO, Arun Kumar Manhas, Director Industries & Commerce Jammu,
Inderjeet Singh, Managing Director SIDCO/SICOP, Vikas Gupta, Director Handloom
& Handicrafts Jammu, Baldev Singh, farmer
Deputy Mayor Jammu, Atul Sharma, Managing Director Handloom and
Handicrafts Corporation, Yelludurai Joint Director MSME, Anil Kumar DGM SIDBI, Ratan
Lal, DGM NABARD, Ms. Ambika Sambyal AD, DCM and officers of J&K Government
and members of business and trade fraternity were present. Artisans showcased
the cultural tapestry of Jammu & Kashmir at the Jammu Trade Fair 2024,
enchanting and featuring soulful
melodies that echoed the spirit of the region. From the rhythmic charm of
traditional Dogri and Kashmiri dance performances to other indigenous art
forms, the event became a celebration of the diverse cultural heritage.
The Jammu Trade Fair 2024 promises to be a
power-packed event, bringing together businesses, investors, and enthusiasts to
explore the economic and cultural richness of J&K.
